NYC gyms are reopening after a three-year hiatus, but that doesn’t mean everyone is having a good time.
After nearly three years in the wilderness, NY’s Gym Chest opened in November, but it’s been a mixed bag so far.
Some people say they enjoyed the workout, others have reservations, and others are simply not in the mood to go back to work.
The gym was set up to help people who are struggling with chronic back pain.
The New York Times reported that over 50% of its patients reported being in pain while at the gym.
The Times also reported that a lot of people were “shocked” to learn that the gym was closing, with one woman describing her first experience as a “welcome relief.”
“I was really looking forward to going to work, and now I’m not,” said the woman.
“I feel like I have to go home to go to work.”
Another woman said she wanted to come back to the gym for “just one day.”
“We don’t want to go anywhere, and this was an opportunity to try something different,” said a woman who wanted to remain anonymous.
“It was fun to do it for the first time, but now it’s a huge pain in the butt,” said another woman.
Another woman claimed she had never been to a gym before, and said she had no idea what she was doing.
“We were told to get to the floor and then to put on our gym clothes,” said one woman.
But for those who have been to gyms in the past, the gym is a place they want to return.
“I want to come to the next one,” said New York woman Alex.
“It’s like going to a funeral.
I don’t even know what to do.”
A third woman who was at the last gym said the gym had helped her.
“That’s why I came,” she said.
“For the first and last time in a long time, I’m back in my comfort zone.
It’s so good.”
Some people, however, have reservations about the workout.
One woman said, “The gym looks a little different now, it’s not like it used to be,” and “it’s a little bit different,” and said that she would not be coming back for “the rest of my life.”
Another said that the workout was too difficult, and that she was “trying to figure out how to do the workouts.”
“There are a lot more people that I don.t know how to meet in the gym now,” said an older woman who said that when she went to the last one, she was able to go for about an hour and “was just happy to be there.”
“It feels like it’s over for a lot,” said this woman.
The NY Times also published a survey that showed that nearly 80% of gym patrons are in favor of the gym returning.
The NY Times report also found that the NYG has had a healthy business for years, with an average of $4.5 million in revenue, and the gym has a healthy reputation.
